@@PowerOn- Sorry to hear that. Our Miele is 25 years old and been in action pretty much every day. It cost us £900 back then! Proving the adage, you get what you pay for. It looks clean as a whistle inside and the bearings and belt look fine. For £50 on parts I may be able to eek out a few more years, fingers crossed .😅 Thanks again.

I thought it had a smart charging system that only charges when needed so you can leave it on the charger ? Anyway, ours are on the charger for over 6 years now, but I wanted to take it apart to clean or solder a new switch as I have to press harder than normal to turn on/off. Thanks very much for the video!

Just found your video, my Miele WDB020 developed clunking sounds just after the 5 year warranty (what a coincidence) ... I couldn't locate the noise back then, but I seem to have tracked it down to the top rear spring. Will have a look at the dampers and springs at ease with daylight tomorrow, thanks for the info. They sure don't make them like they used to

Thanks for the video! Ilike repairing stuff, not throwing away. Unfortunately this tutorial seems to be not working for the newer nodel (with timer) They are basicly the same, but those dheads from Braun changed the locking mechanism on the cap. Its now not L shaped latch, but click and done one. Once the ears are pressed down and latch, there is no way to retract them.

Thanks for this..our old Miele w404 plus has started to misbehave so I dove in ..interestingly my springs are set exactly the same..back at the top..front in different places...my dampers are definitely on the way out so that helps. Initially I was only looking to change the belt when I found your video and so by checking the same issues as me you've saved me a ton of time. One good thing on mine is you don't have to remove the control panel to remove front and sides... So maybe they made an alteration to the model...must have had mine over 20 years now... Hopefully I'll get another 10. Before the bearing collapsed....😁 Did moving the spring position create any issues later on?

If it were stainless steel, it is not corroded in a saline solution, even scratching the strip. To check if it is a ferric material, adding concentrated vinegar (which is used in cleaning) + diluted hydrogen peroxide (which it is sold in pharmacy) and heating without boiling, the solution should take a red-fare color, for the formation of iron acetate, soluble in water.

I did this with a UT210D, but worked out my own mods. ROM is 1024 words instead of 256, but Uni-T just repeated the first 256 words four times. It was extremely similar to the data of the UT210E. I was able to dump the ROM and write my changes back to it, but sadly fried the main chip by following the diagram. Was so excited about doing the mod that I didn’t think about what I was doing. Applying 5V (as shown in the diagram) to a device which runs off of 3V was a bad idea. Obvious in hindsight. The EEPROM handled the voltage fine, but the main chip made a little popping sound as soon as I grounded it through my UNO. The meter never turned on again. 😢 Maybe the person who made that diagram read and flashed the EEPROM with it out of the meter? I didn’t power the meter either as the breakout pads for the EEPROM power the entire board, so I don’t think that’s necessary….or maybe that was where I went wrong. Who knows? Now I’m debating whether to buy a UT210E and attempt this again, or bite the bullet and just buy the UT211B instead.

Doing this today. I replaced the battery before but that one's almost totally gone. 1/2 the time I turn it on it only has 1/2 second action. Other times it's good for 2 minutes and dies, right at the end. I'm replacing with an Eneloop this time, figure it will last way way longer than the NiMH replacement I had in there before. The original was a NiCad. I did something similar with my Oral-B Triumph toothbrush around a year ago, replaced that one's battery with an Eneloop, it's been going strong ever since. Not having a spot welder, I used a regular solder iron. The connection seemed less than reliable but so far so good. Yes, down with planned obsolescence! Thank you for this excellent video. FYI, all, another video showing similar fixing of one of these types of battery operated toothbrushes advised wiping the outside of the unit dry after each use, saying that the death of these is frequently due to water seeping inside. I towel off mine after rinsing these days. So, after writing the above I started the process of changing the battery for an Eneloop AA that had a decent charge on it. It succeeded but there were a couple problems I had to deal with. I removed the battery that was in there. It was a NiMH I'd bought off the internet and it said on the side that it was 2200mah capacity. Of course, that is very doubtful. I then tested its voltage and to my amazement it was quite high, over 1.37 volts. But the toothbrush only worked sometimes in the last 1/2 year or more and would rarely work at all after 2 minutes and lately it wouldn't turn on for more than 1/2 second. So, what could be wrong? I decided to put the Eneloop in there anyway. I tore the tabs off the battery that had been in there and soldered them on the Eneloop. The one on the negative end wouldn't stick, so I roughed up that end of the battery using a dremel. Then the tab stayed soldered on. I assembled the toothbrush but encountered a problem in that the shaft at the top came loose from the rest of the internal unit. I persisted and managed to get it back on, completed assembly. It did not turn on, as Simon experienced and I put it on the charger for a couple minutes and then it turned on. And boy did it go! It had far more power than I'd had from the other battery and after a 2 minute usage it kept going like it never wanted to stop. I have it on the charger now, mission accomplished. I have no idea why it wasn't working with the previous battery. Maybe that was defective even though the voltage looks good using a multimeter.

I have just done this hack in 2023 - it's awesome. Here is what you need to know: To get the unit to serial dump and program, you need to power the meter power ON, and select the 2A dial position, otherwise you will see / have no serial dump. The .ino file you need is on PAGE 7. Not Page 8. After I worked this out, everything worked great.

I respect your choice,at the same time the inductive charging of toothbrushes is unlikely to overcharge and the power density of nimh gets my vote. NiCd is also much less available in some locations (essentually banned in Europe, except in some specified devices)
